CVU Redhawks came to Fairfax looking to repeat the win of past seasons. This year the Bullets were ready to play. The Redhawks were on the board first early in the first quarter. But, the Bullets fired back in the second quarter with two touchdowns. Followed up with one more during the third quarter. CVU put another seven points on the board during the fourth quarter, were unable to get any more. Fairfax held CVU on the goal line late in the fourth quarter to win 20 to 14. |
The Winooski Spartans arrived in Fairfax on what appeared to be a typical September afternoon. The day started off with a partly cloudy sky. But, by the end of the second quarter the players were soaked from the down pour. Great game with the Bullets finishing up with 12 while the Spartans mustered for 7. |

For the Fairfax Bullets, the 2007 football season marked the end of an era. As a team, we had set a goal to win a state championship. We prepared for this season more than any previous season. We seniors knew what was at stake. We had one more season to reach what we considered the pinnacle of success. The seniors of this team had played with one another since middle school and a state championship would be the perfect finish to a wonderful high school career. The season started during the summer, when we gathered as a team to workout and to compete in passing league games. From the amount of players that attended these workouts, I could tell the players were determined on doing what they needed to do in order for our team to win. During this time, we learned what our role was within the team and we became acclimated with the offensive playbook. The team was taking shape and we had a promising outlook. The first day of the regular season started August 14 at 6:00 in the morning. The entire team took the field and the season officially began. Practices were exhausting, at times the temperature rose above 90 degrees, but the coaches did a great job of getting us into shape and we persevered together as a team. The opening game at Poultney was looming and the moment we had been waiting for our entire lives was approaching. The bus ride down was quiet; all players were staring straight ahead, thinking about what they needed to do for our team to win. We strapped on our pads and sat in the locker room as a team, once again, no noise. We walked out together and held hands for the opening kickoff. Three hours later, we had lost to Poultney 23-8. Weeks went by and the team experienced many highs and lows. Our first home game of the season was a loss to our rival CVU. The very next week we beat Montpelier for our first ever varsity victory. This trend followed until the final game of the season, a game against Winooski. We had fallen short of our goal for a state championship, but we could still salvage a four win season. This would be the final game for the seniors of this team, those who have played together since recess football back in fourth grade. The time was 7:00 pm, our fans lined the sidelines, most wearing the jerseys of those seniors, all anticipating what was to come. The atmosphere was electric, like nothing ever seen at one of our games. This was our last chance to play together on the same field as one team. The game ended with a score of 35-28, Fairfax had lost its final game of the season. We were all devastated, the fans were crying, and the coaches were all embracing players who were on the ground in tears. We played our hearts out, but it was in a losing effort. The coaches gathered us all at midfield and we all cried together as a team, one last time. Our season was disappointing, but there were many bright spots. The Montpelier win was the best game we had ever played and our coaches did a terrific job of making us the best players we could be. The players all had their moments within the season, something that they will proudly look back on years from now. For us seniors, it was a season we will never forget. We may not have achieved our goal, but we all have football to thank for what it has given us. Though we are all going or separate ways, we will always keep the Fairfax Bullets close to our hearts. |
